Corrie’s journey didn’t begin in tech – it began with castles, conferences, brasseries and the kind of hospitality graft that shapes you long before you realise it.
“Before I went off to work in tech after uni, all my previous jobs were in hospitality. I worked a lot of weddings in Scottish castles with a catering company, I worked corporate events at the old Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre (RIP) and I was full time in the brasserie at the Malmaison in Aberdeen.”
Those early years became the foundation for everything she’d go on to do.
“I don’t think I could have had a better foundational education in team work, multitasking, people skills, managing workload, and attention to detail than the time I spent in hospitality roles. You don’t know what you’re capable of until you’ve solo handled a breakfast shift of multiple hungover hen parties.”

Corrie briefly left the sector, but she found her way back to hospitality – this time through tech.
“After a few years working in other industries, I landed a job at Vita Mojo, which was my first venture into hospitality tech – it was the combination I had been looking for!”
And that blend – people, product, pace – stuck.
🔎 The frustrations of traditional job hunting
Before Candid entered the picture, Corrie job-hunted the way most people do: CV tweaks, endless forms, and hoping someone would actually read what she sent.
“I would start out on job boards and eventually get to the point where after so many non-responses or rejections where the hiring team had clearly never even looked at my application, that it began to feel pointless.”

What followed was hours of labour for very little return.
“It was hours and hours of writing cover letters, completing pre-screening questions, tweaking the CV to try and guess whatever the prescreening bot they were using was looking for, for very little reward.”
Eventually she shifted tactics.
“I started just reaching out to anyone who looked like they might be involved in hiring on LinkedIn, which got slightly better results but was still incredibly time consuming.”
The system felt broken. The process felt exhausting. And the CV? A constant bottleneck.
💬 How Candid changed the experience
Corrie wasn’t browsing out of curiosity – she was actively looking for her next move. But Candid brought a totally different level of ease.
“For me, the worst part of traditional application was that I’d need to tweak my CV and cover letter for every role I applied to. I have a very varied background in terms of experience and so I could apply for a few different types of roles.”
Candid flipped that on its head.
“With Candid, I only needed to enter my information once and then when I matched with a hiring company, I could just explain easily in a chat what my background is and importantly, I could ask more about how the role would fit in with my experience with an actual person.”

Instead of guessing what to highlight, she could simply talk to the people hiring.
🩷 The part she loved most
One feature stood out above everything else:
“Definitely the ability to have a chat with the hiring manager. Having the opportunity to ask questions about the role and find out if my experience is what they’re looking for without even revealing my identity was really cool.”
👀 Why Candid caught her eye
Candid wasn’t a surprise. She’d actually been watching from afar.
“I have a background in working at early(ish) stage start-ups/scale ups – I love that environment where it’s a bit ‘seat of the pants’ and figuring things out as you go.”
And she already had her eye on the brand.
“I had been spying on Sam posting about Candid for a while because it looked right up my street, hospitality tech in its very early stages with a really cool concept! As soon as I saw hiring was happening, I was straight in!”
A young platform, a bold idea, and a mission to change hiring for hospitality — it matched everything she cared about.
🚀 What happens now
Now, she’s thriving as Candid’s Customer Success Manager – blending every part of her past into a role that finally feels built for her. The hospitality graft, the tech experience, the people-first instinct, the ability to multitask through absolute chaos… it all found a home.
At Candid, she’s not just supporting customers – she’s helping shape a platform she once wished she’d had herself. A platform that cuts the noise, removes the bias, and gives people like her the chance to be seen for who they actually are, not just what fits on a CV.
Her journey came full circle:
from Scottish weddings to hospitality tech,
from Vita Mojo to Candid,
from job-board burnout to a hiring experience that finally made sense.
And now she’s building that experience for others – one candidate, one company, one conversation at a time.
